Cub Cadet Original Question

I have a Cub Cadet Original that is unrestored and sitting in one of my sheds. I'm thinking about selling it to clear up some room and am not sure on what it is worth. It has factory rear PTO but no fenders.
The engine that I got it with it a kohler 10 or 12 horse I believe and has been removed from it (ran when I took it off) and is too big for the hood to fit on it.

What is a good price for this?

Location has a lot to do with it. I'm in NC and they want $800+ for a running original on Craigslist in the Charlotte area. Just last week there were two in New Jersey shore area for $400-500.

Yours should be somewhat less than that as you say the engine is not currently on it and it is not correct size for that mower.

Problem is there are no attachments to fit the PTO. I believe they turn an odd RPM which makes them less likely to actually operate anything or be useful. Garden tractor rear implements run 2000 RPM whereas a farm tractor PTO is 540 RPM.
They were designed to run an auger or an elevator so a full size tractor wasn't tied up during a busy season.
Is it rare? You bet it is! Is it desirable? Not so much as you'd think. It definately has a cool factor, but since there was no rear mount brush cutter or other desirable implement to go with the PTO, it doesn't draw many interested collectors. Creepers and fenders are way more common and yet way more desirable/valuable. Another problem is you can't run a rear lift with the rear PTO.
The DO make a nice setup for custom conversions where garden tractors are made to look like their larger cousins - the farm tractor. With a PTO out the back they are more realistic.
I bought my Original with rear PTO, not running but complete and with another parts tractor for $125. The seller knew what he had - and that it was indeed rare.
My plan was to make a miniature Silver King with the bullet shaped hood.
It still hasn't materalized....
Best of Luck!

Wish I had it down in Ms. I built this one a few years ago from a cub original. V- twin engine with a stub shaft on fly end of engine so it would turn correctly and John Deere round fenders and Allis paint and decals. Fun to play with!,

I have a 100 I am working on now, was thinking of paint it AC orange too as I am an Allis guy and have that color paint already. Yours looks good! Being orange do you get a lot of comments from the red and yellow folks, (Farmall, International, Cub Cadet)?

Most folks here don't even know it's a Cub Cadet, most of the comments are about the noise it makes, sounds like a Harley!!!
