Trigger module

Apparently.

Old Kohler part # is 236818.

Newer Kohler part # is A-237339-S.

Plug those numbers into GOOGLE and quite a few sources come up. Looks like in the $200 to $250 range.

I've got a 1973 vintage Gravely Commercial 10A tractor with a K241 engine that has the trigger ignition system. I assume that it is the same system used on your engine. When my engine started giving me problems some years back, I was convinced that my problem was in the ignition system. The coil used in the trigger ignition system is Kohler part 236826S, and it costs about the same as the ignition trigger. At the time I was tinkering with the engine my old time Kohler dealer told me that if I wanted to fix the trigger ignition system that I should buy both a new trigger and a new coil. He said that nearly every time a customer purchased only a trigger or a coil, they would soon return to purchase the other.

He suggested that a more economical approach to fixing an engine of that age was to convert it to a points and condenser ignition system. I just parked the tractor because I also had a newer tractor that I could use.

I priced a coil for one of those 25 years ago and declined, it's not hard or expensive to convert it back to points... points, condenser, cover, 4 screws, pushrod, coil, ignition switch and a little wire.

With my Gravely Commercial C-10-A I have the magneto system on her. Put REAL Kohler points in it and make sure the gasket and little rubber plug thing are there and in good shape. I have a dog eater on my machine and it MUST start if you get my drift. When you turn the key she doesn't go ra ra ra ra. Not ra.ra. either. She goes ra putputputptttt!!! If the system is good it works like Magic! Another thing, go buy yourself a new plug. I used an NGK BPR6Es plug. You can also use the Irridium version of it. Have several Honda and Briggs engines with those expensive plugs but the engines LOVE them. Give one a try.

The Dog eater is the early rotary 2 stage snow blower that Gravely made. It is built like a tank and is Bullet proof it is so over built. Can almost throw snow into the next county. By the way the NGK plugs BPR6Es is for the Briggs engines. Tomorrow I will repost the correct number for the Kohler when I can look. Go look on tractor talk at walk behind tractors. There is a photo of it.
