Cub Cadet rear axle bearings

I see from the repair manuals for my 86 and 100 that some have needle bearings and some have bushings for rear axle outer bearings. Does anyone have any experience with one vs the other? I don't see a problem at this time, neither seems to be leaking, just wondering. Tom

Are they so bulletproof you have to search for something to fix?

If its not broke, don't fix it.

I wouldn't even worry about it unless a bearing fails or it starts leaking.

The only problem with the bushing type is they required greasing that seldom got preformed thus they are often found in very bad condition. Have seen several worn all the way into the housing. If found in good shape and kept greased there is nothing to choose from between the two types.

Sorry, I have been without the computer for a few days. Saturday we had a heavy wet snow and lost the power for 15 hours, when it came back on Verizon was dead. The technician was just here today, lot of damage from falling branches so they have been busy.

Anyway about the bushings, is thee a grease fitting? I don't remember seeing one. Doesn't the oil from the trans/differential also lube the bearings/bushings? At this time I don't see any problem, I am just trying to learn about what I may have. Is there a way to tell from the outside if you have bearings or bushings?

thanks for the responses, Tom

The 100 has a lot of little things that need fixing, I am not trying to make more work. This tractor hasn't run for years before I bought it 5-6 years ago, have it in the shop and am going over it getting ready to start it and see what it may be. Changed trans oil, starter/gen. rebuilt, fixed wiring harness, new points, bent some metal back into shape, cleaned and spot painted some areas, installed rear lift linkage that I had that fit. Still to do, some tires leak, some steering linkage needs attention, bearing at top of steering column loose, oil change if engine runs without take apart repair, and who knows what else.
