From what I can tell from what you guys have said I believe i have a model L. I still have what I believe is the original engine. Ill have to check the model and year. Will this things trans handle a 5hp? I intend on having a show engine and a use it engine. I have a NOS piston and set of rings for the old cast iron block but they are difficult to get parts for so for normal usage id like to leave the current engine on it. It has 6-12 tires on it instead of 5-12 and it has wheel weights. Other than the sulky cart and a harrow what implments am I missing? Ive got plow blade disc harrow sickle and reel mower.thanks for all the help.

Near me is a parts place for all kinds of mowers and engines Etc. Most all Briggs part are still out there if not original at least the updated part. I have gotten every part I needed for 1985 engines.

1985 is still offered by briggs. This engine is a 1953. If they carry parts for ones of that age I would be interested.

Yes I know but you need to find a wholesaler "part place" and see if they can look it up. Your other choice is to call Briggs direct. I have done that a couple of times for stuff I needed and got help. You will need every number on the engine like serial , lot numbers, line numbers should be three of them. Give it a shot. You can also down load parts breakdowns from Briggs. If not then call them and they will send you a PDF file.
