Adding hydraulics to GT

Snowplow

Member
I have a Cub Cadet 1440. Hydro-static trans but manual lift. I'm thinking of trying to rig up some hydraulics for raising snowblower etc. Problem is electric front pto
is used by blower. Wondering if anybody has thoughts? Probably should just get 1641 and swap snowblower as 1641 had hydraulic lift and blower will swap right over.
Machines are so similar... can retro fit lift?

I am not a Cub Cadet guy. However.... if I was faced with this problem, I would find out the make and model of the hydro. Then I would go to the manufacturer's website and find out if that hydro has ports in it that lead to the charge pump. If the ports are there, then I see no reason why you could not use those ports to supply oil to a control valve and ultimately to a pair of Kwik Kouplers so you can plug in a hydraulic cylinder to lift the attachments.

Just a thought.

Electric actuator is a good idea. Never used one but I would think a GT battery would have enough amps.

I think that I would check into one of the electric actuator as MTA suggested. Only problem with them is they will tax the charging system if used continuously. Adding hydraulics custom hydraulics would be an expensive deal unless you find bargain priced components . Trade the 1440 for a 1650 would actually be my best suggestion.

I enjoy older GT's as much as anyone, but as the years have gone by I have been able to upgrade to a garden tractor with a water-cooled engine and power steering and a hydraulic implement lift and I would recommended you check out this upgrade route BEFORE even considering mods to your older unit. It all depends on your capabilities and available cash and ultimate goals.

As others have suggested an electric actuator is a good choice for this. I am currently using one to lift a 6 1/2' slowplow on my truck. It works fine. One caveat--even if they are described as waterproof, they are not really so if you plan to leave it sit outside you're gonna' have problems with it. Five years ago my father and I put one on his lawn tractor to do exactly what you want to do. It is still working....
