cub cadet 582

im rebuilding the 16 horse briggs in my 582. when i went to put in the No. 2 piston and connecting rod the repair manual says the oil hole should face away from the cam gear. that isnt the way it came out and if its facing away then the hole is facing down which doesnt make sense to me. is this right?

Not familar with that engine, I never had a horizontal Briggs twin apart, but if it uses an oil slinger, they may be trying to catch oil slung off of it, and that is why they want the oil hole down.

I am not familiar with that engine but if faced with a similar situation I would first check to see if the engine showed any sign of previous work. Would not be the first time I ran into improperly installed components by previous "mechanics" Also double check the book, mistakes have been printed, lots of them. If all else fails you can fall back on "it was running OK as it was" but be aware that attitude can get you in trouble. Do you have any good dealers around?

I posted on another forum And found the manual was wrong. I thought it was. Someone posted a picture of another manual that had the correct way. Thanks everyone
