TECUMSEH snow blower engine

Filled the tank with gas with gas and started it. It began to dribble gas out of the primer bulb and choke down. After using it for awhile, it began to run like normal and gas stopped coming out of the primer. I have only used it once this year so I don't know if it will do it again. Any thoughts as to what the problem might be? Thanks.

I would suspect the primer bulb is cracked. I had a similiar problem on one of my weed trimmers this summer. The replacement bulb was around $5.00 as I recall.

I don't know how carb out of adjustment or float would make primer bulb leak. If primer bulb is good it should never leak.

I was going to say I changed one this past summer and it was five. On my Echo trimmer. Commercial size one and straight shaft. Leaked all over the place.

I have had several of them go bad. One was on a new lawn mower and they totally removed it and it started fine with out it. Last summer my Echo top handle chainsaw had the primer bulb go bad. Dealer put it in and glade he did. Watched him put it in and its not the easiest think to put in.

Which type of primer bulb do you have?

The one on the carb itself or the one that is mounted into the engine cover?

No one the bad primer bulb, these are
not like the oneson chain saws and
weedeaters. These are just connected to
the carb by a length of hose. When the
needle and seat or float go bad gas
just runs til the tank is dry. Many
have a small vent hole on the carb
where gas will also leak from and it
may also leak from the mouth of the
carb.

Did you read his comment. He said that gas was coming out of primer bulb and bottom of choke and stopped after getting it running. Gas should never drip or leak out a primer bulb if it is good.

yes I read the original comment. there is no check valve on the primer line. You guys are thinking of the style of primer bulb on a weedeater or chainsaw, different setup/ I'd bet there is nothing wrong with the primer bulb on this machine, and replacing it (and doing nothing else) will NOT solve the problem! With a bad needle and seat on his engine, it will leak out the new one too.

I have had lawn mowers and tiller with primer bulb and they are mounted higher than carb and if needle valve seat leaked gas came out of air intake side of carb not the primer bulb.
