White GT 1650

I everyone. Just want to post a Happy New Year and see how many White Garden tractors are out there. I haven't posted for almost a year and when I did it was about replacing my rear tires. I received a lot of help and have since solved the problem. Again, thanks for the suggestions which gave me the help I needed. My tractor is almost complete and the only thing I have that I'm not sure of is to repaint the fiberglass hood or not. It's in fairly good shape, the decals are good, but it is not great. I had to sand blast and repaint most of the tractor due to the rust. Should I strip it down?
Thanks!

I see them advertised sometimes around Iowa. Are they a currently manufactured brand? Were these sold by the Oliver/White organization? Thanks, Roy

Hi Roy,
I'm from Northeast Iowa but, I had to go to Minnesota to get my GT 1650. The original White Garden tractors were sold exclusively through the White Farm Equipment dealerships. I believe they only did this for three or four years as the tractors were too expensive. When they allowed MTD to take the product to the open market, they changed the numbers, but somewhat kept a similar quality. The White Outdoor Products are totally different and a lesser quality. I'm not sure of the years White Farm Equipment sold the tractors, but I believe it was the mid seventies. The old one are really powerful with the 16 horsepower units.

I have gt 1600 the gear drive version. Good stout tractor I love the 3 point. Have a 1 bottom plow I pulled with it. But it had some electrical problems and haven't run it in 4 year tho. Post some pics of your 1650

I"m having trouble posting the picture of my tractor. I will eventually get it on here (I hope). I would like to see the 1600 also. I guess it looks like the 1650, but I"ve never seen one. Is the 1600 a 16 horsepower unit also? Probably the only difference is the gear transmission vs the hydrostatic transmission. I plowed my garden with mine last Spring before I started to restore it. I had some fun with that. I think I have it. I"m not totally finished, but the front tires need to be replaced and the wheels painted and of course the hood.

Yours looks a lot better than mine! I'd post a pic if I could figure out how too. And yes it's got the original b&s 16 hp engine and a 4 speed tranny. I also have tractor type tires on it. If I had more time I'd love to get it goin again. I have a little one bottom plow and it was always fun to use it. If I get a chance may get it out once it warms up more

I am sure yours is a very rare tractor as the hydros were more popular than the gear type and there were not many hydros sold because of the price. Does yours have a fiberglass hood or is it metal? I had some electrical problems also, but I found the wires were in the wrong places and some of the wires had bare spots in the insulation.

I'll see if I can post a pic today or tomorrow. And ya I prolly have the same wiring problems just been cut and spliced to much. It kept burning the magnetos up in it so after the fourth one I put one in that doesn't need points it's like an electronic ignition but after I put that on it never ran right. And yes unfortunately it's a fiber glass hood that's broke off. I thought I'd fix that after I got the tractor goin good and painted the rest of the tractor. What kind of plow do u have?

Hi weaser, there was a White GT 1650 on a consignment auction here in WC MN last summer, I didn't make it to the action don't know what is sold for, it wasn't a bad looking tractor did need some work I'm sure the usual things like wiring a good bath etc.
I was impressed with it I really liked the looks of it.

It's a ride for kids. I made it for our antique farm association. Most trains just have the barrels, but I added farm equipment to each barrel. The kids love it. I'll try to sent some pictures. I have myyyy converted Oliver pulling this one. I also have a three bottom plow, two row corn planter, disc and hay rake. It's hard to see the implements in this photo, but the photo gives you an idea of what it is. The combine is a close up of my Nephew's little boy.

The looks of the tractor and the style looking like the Larger White tractors made me interested in it and after I brought it home I was really impressed with the construction of the unit. The fiberglass hood is the usual issue with restoring them. I have that problem now as the hood is decent, but is off-color from the repainted unit. Decals are another issue.

That's cool that's a nice parade float! It would be so much better if they just made a metal hood. You could always tape stripes on the hood and paint decales on that's what my dad did 20 years ago on our white 4-210
