Kohler Engine Carburetor

Could someone tell me if and where there might be rebuild kits for the carburetors, and what make and or model they might be.?

Mike

You need to get very specific for whihc make and model, but yes there are kits. Many places sell them, our local Cosat-to-Coast hardware store sells them, will also install them, there's also an official Kohler Engines place in Springfield MO. sells them. Lots of places. eBay too.

Did you know that Kohler built LOTS of differing engines for a VERY long time that used elnumero different types and brands or carburetors? Some information would help,, That being said it is very likely that a kit is available for your carburetor. I buy all such stuff online. Jacks Small engines, Ebay many others. NAPA is a good place to go if you dont buy online as would be any lawn mower shop worthy of the name. You need the HP rating, model number and often the spec number from your engine to be sure you get the correct kit,

give me model and spec of engine and can kit you what you need. alot of kits have been done away with so just letting you know and several times you can get the whole carb for little more than the kit. let me know if can help work on them daily in the shop here.

Mike, Kohlers had alot of different carbs depending on the model. Try asking these folks at McHenry Small Engine. They are Kohler parts experts and always have the right answer for me. 800-433-9964.

Thanks for all the advice guys, I'll post the Model and serial number of engine, and carb then we'll have better idea what to do. This is first time for me needing to rebuild a carburetor for a garden tractor. I have 2-Case 155's that need work done.

I just rebuilt a carb for a friend's Craftsman mower last week. Only listing by model number I could find was a new carb at $300. Once I pulled the carb and got its number it was easy to find a kit for $70. Steep for what it is, but where else are you going to get a float and needle valve?

Take the carb off of the engine and on the shoulder flange of the carb, where it bolts to the engine, in little tiny numbers, that is the model of the carb. That is the information you need. You should be able to get all of the kits.

if it is an old K series it would be a carter, a Kohler that looks like a Carter, (rebuild kits are the same) or a Walbro brand carb. Rebuild parts are available for them. check the throttle shafts and see if they wobble within the carb casting, that might require some minor machine work. If a Carter/Kohler there is a recess in the casting under the top of the throttle shaft that you can drop a bushing into. Check out brian Miller Kohler engine website, he does an awesome job of explaining this and sells the needed bushings. If a Walbro the process is slightly different but still doable.
Don't junk what you have just because of this.
