Cub Snowblower operation questions

I mounted the snowblower up over the weekend and find that it will run all the time the tractor is running. I haven't had this tractor running a snowblower in quite some time. Mower works like it should but the blower no mater what I do runs constantly. I did put put something in the augur to hold it stopped before starting it and it didn't turn with out issue. I rebuilt the clutch this past spring, ran the tractor with the mower on it through this fall and this is now the first time putting this back on in 3-4 years.

Can it be that the clutch is again bad? I adjusted it like I read in the booklet using a piece of cardboard the thickness of a match book cover as I did with the mower earlier in the year. Is this an issue other that I think safety? Should I run this like this and if so will I hurt anything?

Tractor is a Cub 124 and the blower a QA42. Thanks guys any help would be great.

I would try backing out the clutch adjusting nuts maybe a quarter turn. If it is like the other electric clutches that I am familiar with. It could be that something is not true and is causing a little drag. The blower may might not have as much friction as the mower deck and that might be the difference.

Adjust your clutch so that it is close as you can get it without touching when it is in neutral. If that doesn't work you will have to remove the clutch and re-adjust the three bolts.

124 is a Mechanical clutch, I've not had to monkey around with either of mine but they can be adjusted, you need to insure the little fiber button is pushing in the center of the clutch enough to release it and that the bolts are adjusted as not to pre-load the clutch stack. If it's been setting a while it might be rusted or other wise fouled up so you might have to mess with it a bit to free it up.

Thanks guys for the responses. The tractor mowed grass all summer with out issue on the clutch. Stopped and started as it should. The button is being pushed in and out as normal and worked fine like I said with the mower this summer. Sitting yes it has since say September this year. So in that short time I am in doubt I have issue with it rusting up. However not to rule that out as it is possible but I myself am skeptical.

I'm not sure how much more accurate I can get with this clutch and be still off. Is it that tricky to get it set properly? I have the factory gauge that came with the parts. Used that. Had to make a thin wrench to tighten up the bolts as well. I believe that I am to the spec's on the clutch. However I ask this, could it be the wrong belt? Meaning that even though I have everything assembled in place is it still going to turn no matter what with the wrong belt. I know it's an aftermarket belt. So can anyone confirm the correct one for me to compare the one I have to?

Carefully I made the auger stop with a 2x4 while it was off. I started the tractor and the clutch stopped spinning as well as the auger so I believe it would stop if there was any snow in the blower. However since there isn't anything there to stop the auger it "free wheels" on it's own. I'm thinking possibly because of the belt being incorrect. The mower worked fine. It stopped and started as it should.

So believe me I don't want to have to pull that clutch again. I am in hopes we can correct this before I have to do the clutch again. Winter is here and I thought I had the clutch licked and it would operate without issue. I would really like to use this machine this year rather than the walk behind.

Ed,

I wouldn't rule out the possibility of rust.
Just look how the rotors on your car's brakes can rust almost overnight.
