Snowblower for a 220 Case?

As some of you know, I purchased a 220 Case recently, and am looking into whether there was a snowblower made to use for this particular model tractor. Thoughts are of putting one on it, but concerns are with the fact it only has a 10hp motor and I'm not sure it could handle the load. If there was a model made, would be interested in possible purchase of one.

Thanks, Mike

The question is this. What year is your tractor? The 220 was introduced in 1969 and that model continued until the end of 1988. The 220 produced for 1969 and 1970 still used the same system for connecting attachments to the tractor that was found on the 1967 and 1968 models. In 1971, CASE introduced the Snap Fast system that needed no tools and you did not have to lay on the ground to connect and disconnect utility blades, snow casters and mower decks. If your tractor has the spring loaded pins at the end of the frame below the hood, then any 38 inch wide snow caster that uses the Snap Fast system will hook onto the front of your tractor. There are plenty of them around because essentially that snow caster remained the same from 1971 to 1988. When minor changes were made, the LETTER of the model number advanced from H-80 to J-80 to K-80, L-80 and so on. What you do not want is a snow caster with the letters SB. Nor do you want any other snow caster that is not a model 80 because CASE also made Lawn Tractors and produced snow blowers for them too.

You Kohler K 10 horse will handle the 38" snow caster no problem providing the engine is in good condition. A severe drop in compression equals a severe drop in horsepower. Condition of the snow caster is important. In order to perform well, the auger and the housing interior along with the discharge chute must have a thick coat of glossy paint. Rust is your enemy because it does not allow the snow to slide to the center and get tossed out the chute. Check the cutting edge and the ski's. Look for a bent auger that wobbles as it rotates. Look for bent flutes on the auger and bent end plates. Bad bearings can be replaced and so can worn out chain. It's smarter to pay a bit more for one in excellent condition than it is to buy a rusty POS that you have to dismantle, media blast and repaint.

If you have an older 220, then finding a blower will be a lot harder and those are PITA to install because you also need a special PTO kit to spin the driveshaft that is attached to the gearbox.

Thanks for the information Tom, I'll be picking the 220 up on Jan 5th, that's when I'll get the serial number from it and repost the info. It is a 2 tone tractor that has the complete set of hubcaps and the J-40, and J-44 mower decks, all in working condition. Perhaps Dave will know of one in Ohio.

Tom, I just looked at the pictures and information the owner sent me about the decks, their numbers are J-40 75 and J-44 75, not sure if this means the tractor and decks could be a 1975 model, but the pictures appear to have the spring loaded pins on the front end.?

Mike

The H deck was released in 1971 and the J decks were release in 74. The J40 deck is 38" cut and the J44 is 44" cut. The 75 indicates the year they were manufactured. Most likely, the tractor is also a 1975 so it should be easy to locate a snow caster for it. You can put the 48" wide snow caster on that tractor. You just need to drive a little slower so that you don't overwhelm the engine.

The tractor is a snap fast model.. I remember seeing it on Craigslist.. So any of the snap fast blowers will work on it.. And Sorry I do not have a blower available for it as of right now.
