Cub Cadet 2146

I am a recent widow trying to keep up a 1 acre large yard. I Just had Cub Cadet 2146 repaired yesterday. Today I was paying a young man to mulch the leaves in my yard. He left
the lawn tractor sitting in the middle of the yard and left. When I called to inquire as to why he did not put the tractor under the shelter, he said the oil was out and it just quit
running. He said that was a "safety feature?"

Question: How to you determine when the oil is getting low? I was told there was no way to tell until it just stops running and then you can not start it again until you add oil.

Is there not an oil level indicator?

Sorry to have to ask this question, but I feel that I am not getting the correct answers from the person I hired to mow!

I have NO exact knowledge of your machine, but typically small engines have a dipstick extending from the oil fill cap that's used to check the oil level.

Sounds like you do not have an operator's manual, and it would be a good idea to get one if you are keeping the machine around. Check with a dealer, or ebay, or sometimes it's possible to download one for free at the manufacturer's website, or GOOGLE the model #, and see what you can find.

It is also possible that there's an issue with the low oil shutdown system that made it shutdown unnecessarily. That has happened before.

Thank you, Bob. I have now ordered an Operators manual on eBay. I will check oil level before putting any more in to determine if it could have been another problem

For the model number, type in: [b:b109eac761]2146[/b:b109eac761]
For the serial number, type in: [b:b109eac761]13[/b:b109eac761]

The top two selections are the "Owners Manuals", depending whether your tractor is a 2000 or 2001 model. But for checking the oil, I am thinking it doesn't matter. Click on the "View" tab and wha-la......you have access to the manual to view or download.

this sure sounds fishy to me. operate a small engine shop so thats why sounds fishy. check the oil by the dipstick tube which should be on this engine. unless the oil has leaked out badly while using it would not shut down. if it was at a certain low level to begin with it would not of let the engine run much after start up. are you sure he just did not run out of gasoline!!!!! when you said had repair yesterday what was its issues before repair,or why did you have it repaired?????? if you were close be glad to get you going again.

Yes, you are right! Fishy and I have been so overwhelmed since my husband's death that I did not see the handwriting on the wall!

I have ordered an Owner's Manual through eBay and I am going to try to find someone else to take care of the equipment, etc. that have not already been "hauled off as junk just to "help" me!

Thanks for your response! :p
