Didn't mean to leave you hanging, couple of weeks ago I asked your opinion on my Onan....I got busy with other things and just now had the time to check it. It IS the seam in the intake maifold, right by one of the locating pins, a little shot of WD40 at that spot smoothed it right out. Thanks a million, now I know what I gotta do......

Isn't it hard to believe Onan would make anything as stupid as that intake manifold sealed by silicone, and for how LONG!

the original sealer is NOT silicone.

thank you boomer ( the used onan engine parts guy, also NOS and new )

Well, no matter WHAT the goo was it wasn't a good idea to use stuff that couldn't stand exposure to gasoline to seal an intake manifold.

I've done OK with it, though, I've had two John Deere 318's all but given to me because they were replaced because they didn't run right, and both turned out to need the intake manifolds repaired.

Have done quite a few others, as well, for folks who wanted them fixed.

i will beg to differ with you.
it is not a problem with the sealer used.
my 1982 case 448 B48M has the same intake
manifold as the J.D tractors from that era. ( one owner, me )
it is all original. ( 33 years )
J.D has much more of a problem due to
being enclosed so tight
they tend to run WAY hotter under hood temps.
thank you boomer

Glad you found the leak. That didn't happen often but sometimes I would find a bad one. Most of the time it was a bad gasket.
