Briggs replacement motor

Earlier post I stated that my 20hp. Briggs threw a rod. I am now installing a new motor. Manual says oil can be SF, SG, SH, SJ or higher is also reads that I can use a synthetic 5W-30. I am thinking about using an oil with a CF-2 CF Rating. This is the same oil I use in my older tractors and would mean I don't have to purchase various oils What this engine gets with its first fill it will continue to get until it dies, any ideas would be welcomed

You have the engine manual. Does it say that you can use an oil with a CF-2 CF rating? There is your answer.

Kohler recommends that synthetic 5w-30 oil in their standby generator. Change it at every 100 hours or once a year. I change it once a year. Hal
PS: I've had the generator 3 years. It only holds 2 quarts.

Where are you located? How hot does it get there in the Summer?

Not having your particular manual before me, I can't advise you. but I do know that Briggs tells us that their engines don't consume as much oil above 80 degrees Farenheit if they have 30wt. in them.

I am located in eastern Iowa so it does get hot here from time to time Manual says SN or higher isn't a diesel grade oil higher?

It always amazes me when people think that they know more about oil choice than the very people who design and build the engines. Briggs lays out in the chart below exactly which oils are to be used in certain circumstances and yet..... the OP chooses to ignore the best advice on this issue after having blown up one engine.

Oils with a CF rating were developed for use in 2 cycle diesel engines. Last time I checked, the Intek engine was a 4 stroke gas engine and therefore it has different lubrication needs. And the logic behind this thread .......I don't want to have to buy 2 quarts of oil every 50 hours of engine use that is different from what I already have on hand.

I doubt that the OP will ever comprehend just how absurd that mindset is.
Intek oil recommendation

If you go synthetic use 5-30 like the chart says. I have a Troy pony that is close to ten years old and that is all I have used in it. I will advise you to check the oil dip stick every time you run the machine. That oil is able to slip past the rings a bit. Uses very little but it is just good to check. If you adjust your valves now and then it is fabulous how clean the engine is under the covers. I am very happy with it.

Manufacturer recommends a "S" Spark Ignition oil, and you are thinking of a "C" Compression-Ignition oil? And the previous engine threw a rod?

SF is a pretty old rating, guessing mid 1980s? That tells me that the engine is forgiving in it's oil requirements but does not tell me that any ole oil can be used in it.
Any detergent oil for gasoline engines that is commonly available will meet or exceed that SF rating. Buy a case of the right oil when on sale and forget using the old 2 cycle diesel oil is my advise.

Any of the new oils that fall into what the manufacture recommends will give you years and years of service as long as you service it in compliance with what the manufacture says.
