fuel shutoff is overheating..i understand that they are dual coil design with heavy guage wire coming from relay to activate when started and then that shuts off and the secondary coil is activated thru the guage pod..what is the voltage and amperage on the secondary..im having issues when I bypass the relay so it doesn't get hot it shuts the engine off and im thinking it might not be working correctly..thanks for any help on this matter

If you are powering only the "hold winding" and the solenoid heats up and releases, it is defective. Simple as that.

Hi, As I stated in a previous reply the voltage to the hold in coil is 12 volts dc. The fuel pump relay only supplies current to the pull in coil, not the hold in coil so jumping the relay will only do what you say is happening, overheating your solenoid and not keeping your tractor running. Why don't you take the solenoid off and simply bench test it.

ok I took it off today and what I found was that running a jumper to the hold in wire which I assume is the 16 guage wire since the 12 guage wire is the pull out coil..doesn't hold it in so as the other gentleman stated it must be defective..however I couldn't get a reading of voltage through the wire harness for the hold in coil either so I guess there is a problem there..thats why my previous questions about voltage to the secondary wire..it looks like it also comes from the relay but don't know how that is triggered as there is only the yellow wire from the guage pod that sends power to the relay and then on to the pull out coil and hold coil..at this point I am learning deere has all kinds of loops and such going on on these machines and it is quite challenging to try to figure out whats happening without spending quite a bit on parts...(new fuel solenoid..perhaps a new relay if this went bad and burned out the solenoid..new guage pod if it is what went bad and caused this to begin with)..and I also tested the alt as you suggested and am getting 43v ac at the terminals which means that the converter must not be working right or something..thanks for your help and let me know if you think of anything else that might contribute to these problems have a great evening

I jumped it today and it didn't do anything so I guess that's my problem at this time but from the wiring harness to the solenoid im not getting any reading for the hold in coil either so more than one problem it would seem..thanks for your input and have a great evening
