Case 130 Wire Harness

I have made up a new wire harness for my 130. I used the parts book that gives colors and lengths of all the wires in the harness. Does anybody have a under hood picture of an original harness on a tractor so I can see how it's supposed to lay in there?

I cannot help you with a photo and nothing in the Case manuals shows how the wiring was installed. That said, I think that you are putting too much emphasis on what is essentially a small issue that is easily resolved just by using common sense.

The 130 has the most basic wiring harness of all the Case tractors. With the battery sitting next to the dashboard and the ignition switch, starter switch, regulator being almost next to one another, there is little in the way of optional routing for the wires. You have two wires that go to the start/gen, one wire that goes to the ignition coil and one that goes to the headlamps. The latter two must traverse the top of the engine and zip tying them to the metal grille brace is all that is needed. As for the start/gen, one lead is self-supporting because it is a heavy gauge wire. The other lead can be zip tied to it. It is easy to install these wires far enough away from the exhaust system so that they cannot be heat damaged.

I agree it's not rocket science to put the harness in there so it will work, but a picture if available is worth a thousand words.

I don't disagree but you have to keep the following in mind. The 130 is 50 years old. Most have passed through numerous owners during their life and many of them have been worked on by good mechanics and bad mechanics. In other words ..... you cannot rely upon a single photo to depict the exact way the factory routed the wiring. I have seen some really bad hack jobs on wiring in the tractors I own as well as ones that show up on my own CCI forum. I wish I had a better suggestion for you but I don't. In all the years I have been involved with CCI tractors on forums, this is the first time that I can recall anyone being all that concerned about the wiring on a 130. Don't get me wrong. I am all for restorations being as correct as possible but I would question anyone who says that they have the ability to say to you that you did not route a particular wire correctly. In order for that to happen, there would have to be a benchmark and i am not aware of such an animal. Good luck with your quest.

I have been a mechanic for almost 40 years now and I have fixed a lot of tractors and machinery in that time. I find the search for details to be part of the enjoyment. I'm one of those idiots that do stupid things like line up all the hose clamp screws an radiator hoses, I use the right size cotter keys and make a nice neat job of bending the tails around and even cut the extra inch and a half off of the cotter key tails. None of this stuff makes the job run better or worse, but the finished product ends up with a more professional look. These forums are a great source for the needle in a haystack, I never say never when it comes to mechanical information.

OK..... I'm fine with that.......but......... I will expect you to post a full array of photos once you feel the tractor is finished.
