ok so some time back I asked about the wiring on a jd x748 and got a reply that deere didn't advertise their diagrams that much and the systems were complicated..boy were they right...I bet there's 20 ft of wire that doesn't need to be there because of the safety stuff... geez..my question is after all day of tracing and such..i have power from the start position into a plug on the guage pod but its not coming out of another plug in the pod to activate the relay for the fuel shutoff and a third plug on the pod to allow the starter to engage..i have traced all the safety switches and tested and they appear good ...if the guage pod is bad will that cause this problem? or is the pod just an indicator and the wires loop back through the system..the gauges and indicator lights all function as they should..im about ready to rewire this direct and be done with all of the issues..thanks for any help and suggestions

jdparts.com enter your model number, go to alphabetical index, w for wiring harness. You can probably print the picture of the harness to give you something to look at.

Surely you don't want to BUTCHER a nice newer tractor like that, do you?

The OP switch and other safety switches interact with an electronic board that "votes" on whether you get to start it or not, and a service manual will walk you through a step-by step flow chart to get to the basics of what has failed.

A service manual on CD can be had reasonably on ebay, auction # 161186754258, for example.

well butcher might be a little strong I bought this as a non running machine that had been left out and sat for several years so the abuse had been done already.. I understand the usefulness of a manual but other than wiring... the mechanical aspects of it I have covered already...and since most of the functions (lights and indicators) work in the dash my thoughts were to just bypass to a direct power from the key switch for the fuel shut off and then for the starter solenoid wire from the key switch thru brake switch and then to solenoid ..bypassing the dash pod if in fact it was the problem..thanks for your response and help in this matter I had thought the pod might control more than just indicator lights

I went to that site and it lists the parts invloved in the wiring harness but no colors of wires or direction on what controls what exactly but a useful site for other things thanks for that info
