Any 782D owners out there?

I'm interested in discussing the support of the hood on my 782D. I find it hard to believe that the plastic dash is all there is to support the closed hood. Am I missing something?

No help on your model, except every so often I work on something, and say "Why in the world would anybody design it like THAT??? That's just plain GOOOFY!!"

I have a 782 (same as the 782D except it is a gas model). It is a 1984 model and I have NO problems with my dash.

I have a 682 Cub Cadet, very similar if yours is a cub. Either the plastic dash is all, or maybe the fuel tank lends some support.

There is a difference but the hood is no different on the 782 or 782D and both sit on the end of the plastic dash. The difference is that the 782D does not have the 'firewall' that the 782 Gas has which separates the fuel tank from the engine. The firewall has a rubber strip that the 782 Gas hood sits on which gives the hood support in the center. But the center support still does not prevent the plastic dash from getting worn. Friend of mine has a salvage yard full of used 682/782/18xx series gas models, and on most you can see where the rubber/plastic edging has made a grove into the dash housing over time from vibration .

This guy is in Taneytown Maryland, 410-848-8038. Last year he had about 150 or so Cub Cadets, probably 30-40 restored. He may still have them, but the last I heard his wife told him he had a choice -- he could either keep her or the tractors but not both.
