I'm new on this forum guys . My MTD riding lawn mower hasn't run for 2 years . I have spark and fresh gas , but she won't fire , could it be a dirty carb . seems like it's spitting gas back out the carb . The 12.5 is a techomseth and did run good at one time .

Thanks

Take the bottom bowl off of you carburetor.Your float is hanging causing your carb to flood.Spray the float area with
Berkebile gum cutter.Move the float up and down to make sure it does not hang.If you have an air compressor blow the
area out.Put the bowl back on.By the way make sure you tap the bowl lightly when removing it so that the gasket seal
frees up so that you do not tear the gasket .

Clean the carb out with gum cutter. If it's still hard to start get a can of starting ether to help get it going. If that doesn't start it then you may have trouble elsewhere.

Two things that will help keep the carb clean afterwards, get a $5 fuel shutoff valve and install it in the fuel line along with a fuel filter. After mowing, just turn the fuel valve off and run it out of fuel.

I'll do your suggestions tomorrow if the weather cools down . It's like an oven up here this week .

If it has been sitting for two years with fuel in it. It will need the carb jets cleaned out with fine wire and carb cleaner.

Sometimes carbs won't work no matter what you do after they have been sitting with fuel in them for a long period of time.

Well guys here is what I did today .

Removed float / needle , jet, sprayed them with carb cleaner .

Closed the choke , hit the starter and she purrs like a kitten .

Thanks for the help !!
