Husqvarna 2042 Trans problem

My son has a 3yr old Husqvarna 2042 that has developed an Hydro problem. Transmission seems to slip or pause when trying to reverse. No problem going forward. Trans is a sealed unit, what could be the problem ??

Check the screws in the front transmission mount. They go in from the top on most of the smaller Husqvarnas. They sometimes strip out where they go in the transmission. Then the transmission case twists forward and slacks the drive belt. The torque on the wheels makes it twist forward and slip more in reverse.

If that is the case, Check where the axle bolts to the frame too. It sometimes cracks there. Husqvarna has a repair kit for the axle mounts, but you have to know whether you have the vertical rear or the sloping rear frame.

I usually just remove the transmission case screw on the opposite side of the case, drill all the way through and put 5/16 bolts with nuts and lockwashers. dope the bolt head and nut and lockwasher with RTV to make sure the case won't leak through the new holes.

Other than that, check your belt and idler pulleys are in good condition.

There also were some where the link from the pedal to the arm on the transmission was bent too short. You can take some of the bend out of the link and make it push the transmission arm farther in reverse, but be aware you will probably lose some forward speed when you do.

Lastly, The transmission could be pretty much done.
