Tractor started running rough and finally quit.
Replaced the points and set to factory spec., ran great, better than ever, then after about 2hrs of continuous cutting started running rough again, and quit.
Points still set at .025, but noticed now that they never close. If I set them to close, now I'm firing way before TDC and tho it runs, you can tell it's out of time.
Any suggestions? Cheap points maybe?

"Points still set at .025, but noticed now that they never close."

If the points never close there will be no spark and the engine won't even fire.

Max suggested setting is .025", and desired timing is 25º BTDC.

What is yours firing at when it runs?

Below is a link to the factory manual (.pdf) which gives full details.

I backed off until the little cam rod was at its lowest point then went forward to where it opened the points.
Baked off again to lowest point and set the points closed. Didn't measure the gap at timing mark, but the engine does run, but it is firing way before it should. It almost looks like the cam or whatever actuates that little rod doesn't allow it to lower the points to close.

Thanks for the link to the service manual.
Found out what I was doing wrong.
Didn't go far enough in the point setting.

Glad you got it fixed!

Nothing better than getting manual for FREE on the 'net from the manufacturer and following the correct procedure!
