Ford 100 garden tractor

Hello
I have a Ford 100 garden tractor. I'm guessing my dad got this in the mid 60's. It always slips out of 2nd gear. He said it always did it and it still does it. Anyone every heard of this or know how to fix.
Thanks

That tractor was made by Jacobsen and it should have a Peerless 2300 transaxle. Slipping out of gear usually means the detent spring is broken that holds the detent ball in the shift rail. Cheap repair. There are threads on rebuilding the transaxle on the weekend freedom machines web site.

I had the transaxle in my Jacobsen Chief 1000 apart. Mine was staying in gear fine. I just re-sealed the case halves before painting it. They are quite simple and straight forward inside. The detent spring theory is probably correct. Especially if you can hold the lever to keep it in gear. If you end up finding something wrecked inside I have a Chief 1000 for parts.

Thanks for the info. Can you tell from this picture what parts I might need.
Thanks
