I just picked up this cadet , and I have 2 problems . I want to disassemble and relube the steering box,. but the plug on the bottom will barely move, I can get it to move about 1/8 of a turn back & forth , but no more. I'm using the correct drag link socket ,and it's soaked with Kroil . I'm getting ready to try the air impact , but I'm thinking that much force might start it to gall. Any tips ?

I'm guessing you got the cotter key out? There usually is one in one of the notches in that plug.

If it was me, I would keep working it the way you are and try for a little more movement each time.

I thought about heat, but that might not be good for the separator between the bearing balls, its made of plastic.

Should be a 90 degree grease fitting on the front of the box pointed down but look closely at all the holes for the locking pin for burrs. I would warm the box with a torch prior to using an impact myself. Keep working it with your favored oil. Once apart you might as well put new balls and races in the steering shaft and there is a very nice roller bearing upgrade that goes under the adjustment nut that is available from about anybody who sells Cub Cadet parts or on fleabay.
