tire size change

This may be a dumb question but, I have a JOHN DEERE 445 with 23x10.5-12 tires. I want to replace them with a wider tire . Any suggestions please . I really don't want to change rims if I don't have to .

Wide tires call for wide rims so that they seat properly. Why do you feel it necessary to go to a wider than stock tire?

I had a 425 and the first thing I did was change to 26 x 12 x 12 ag tires. What a difference it made to traction. Never needed chains (winter or summer). I did change the fronts to a 5 rib Vredestein in one size larger (these tire sizes are what most 445's that I have ever seen came stock with. I might have seen some 445's that were 4 wheel steer that had the 23x10.5x12 tires but I think this is done for clearance of linkages for 4 wheel steer.

Bob,
There are times when thinking outside the box has merit but then all too often there are times when that sort of thinking ends up being counterproductive.

Going significantly wider without widening the wheels is a mistake no matter if the change is for practical reasons or for "the look". Sometimes you can go up one size and be OK. Also there is quite a bit of difference from brand to brand. I suggest going to a tire site and looking at tires specs for what you want to use and then looking at the recommended rim size, if you are more than an inch or two off your probably not going to have satisfactory results.

They also make a 24x12x12 rear. Was an upgrade from 23's and no wheel spacers or fender/mower clearance issues. They are just the right size bigger and they gave my IH 782 more of 'floatation' tire feel.
