Electric clutch issue

Howdy! First time poster. Question! Have MF 2722 (Simplicity) mower. What should I be looking for since the electric mower clutch will not apply except by chance, but will stay applied once engaged. Charging system works fine. New battery. Hate to start replace parts till we find it. Any experiences with such a thing? Thanks

Check your air gap. I think it should be .015. You adjust it by turning the nuts in, these are the ones with springs, there should be 3.

Try jumping around the switch too. I would guess the switch.

Your suggestion of checking air gap sounds real good for this situation. 600 hours on the machine. Has to be some wear. Thanks for the reply's .
