The original subject was "Cub Cadet LTX1050 Fire.".

My Cub Cadet just burnt up today. I bought it from True Value in 2009; had trouble from the start. I never received a recall notice but don't know what kind of engine it had before the fire. I checked it before use and there were no nests or other debris under anything. It appeared to be leaking oil before the fire as I smelled oil burning then saw flames. I raised the hood but things were starting to melt; so I backed off in case it exploded.

Were you mowing the area that is shown in the picture? If so I would think the electric clutch could have played a part in a fire. Grass that high and thick is too much for that mower in my honest opinion. We have the same unit here and have mowed literally hundreds of acres over a nine year period. This spring we had a kid attempt to mow grass that had reached a level not quite as high and thick as shown in your snapshot and the PTO burnt to a crisp with flames at the electrical plug. Combine that with a possible oil leak and boom. Glad no one or property besides the mower was hurt.

Hmmm, I've got one of those. Mine isn't crispy yet, but I am sure it is coming. It looks as though it had that wonderful Kohler Courage engine. They are known for leaking valve covers. It leaks literally right onto the exhaust. I smell burning oil for the first 10 minutes ours runs. It would be best if it just went up in flames.

Google the Kohler Courage engine and you will get some pictures of where they are prone to crack the block. That causes lots of oil to leave the engine right there not far from the exhaust. If I remember right, there's a post in this forum with a picture from several days ago. The title is something about going "off to see the wizard" or something.

It was actually my foot path between high weeds and brush that could have tangled with the mower. Before I saw the flames; I saw what looked like oil smoke coming from that part of the mower. I was just amazed at how quickly the whole thing went up and consumed any non metal parts.
