John deere 425 pto will not disengage

I have an early 425 mower and the pto for the deck drive will not shut off. The switch/light seems to be working. Any
ideas? Thanks

Seized bearing in the electric clutch, perhaps?

Pull the connector off the solenoid on the back of the transaxle. If it disconnects, there is an electrical problem from that point back to the switch. If not, there could be a stuck solenoid. Can't think of anything else.

I would most suspect the switch, not breaking contacts even though it works otherwise.

These have a hydraulically applied clutch inside the transaxle that the solenoid routes oil to in order to engage.
