Simplicity Z turn

Have a Simplicity zero turn 48 inch Champion XT with the welded deck. Works well in dry grass but wants to build up over time, the blades pack the grass up into the front wrap around guard if grass is even the slightest bit wet. If engine is brought to idle with the blades on then some of the grass falls into the blades and almost kills the engine, make another round and clear it again. Am tempted to cut away the contoured guard so there's no place for grass to build up. Dealer says to just throttle back when mowing, it did help but not much. Also wonder if deck was cleaned and slip plate coating would do any good? This has been a really wet year, I've had others having mower issues too. Is there any deck design that works well with wet grass?

There are a couple things that will help with the one you have. First is to reset the deck. It is probably low on the rear now, readjust it so the end of the blades at the front edge of the deck are 1/4 inch lower than when at the rear. Another is to remove the baffles around the blade, but that takes more work, and it will not make as smooth a cut afterward. I did both on my Simplicity 48 inch with welded deck.

what blades are on this unit and is the motor always running at its full rpm, and is the deck belt tight otherwise this should not be problem. the decks are design with baffles for a reason not just so customers can start complaining about them. this is the same as the ferris and have had no issues with units out the door. i see the most trouble with the john deere units than anything else out there. they do not like very tall grass period. i will still recommend a stamped deck over a fab deck. also a shallow deck versus deep deck .

Has the stock blades it came with, not the Gator mulching blades like the old Dixon had. I looked at a new Skag the other day, it didn't have the wrap around blade guard for grass to pack up above the blades like the Simplicity does, it's more open like the L306 deck on my B Farmall. All I know is the Dixon and Woods don't bunch up like this one does in poor mowing conditions like we've had this year. I don't care about mulching, just want the grass cut and out of the deck. Never had a mower that sounded like a jet with all the air noise, that wants to pack the grass above the blades instead of blowing out. Engine speed is wide open, but the dealer did say to run about 2/3 throttle when conditions are poor. I'm tempted to rework the deck for rear discharge too, don't care about stripes either, looks silly to me..

You can buy blades with a different lift angle on the blade. The mower dealer ship I work at has had a few people with the same problem. Changed to a lower lift blade and have had better luck with grass discharge even in wet grass.
