John Deere x475 coolant temperature problem

My x475 runs fine but, while mowing the temperature gauge will go in the red. I will shut the deck off and it will immediately go in the green range. All fluids are full, radiator fins are clean, temperature sensor is new. I have checked places on the engine with a infrared thermometer and the hottest is 220°. Thanks for any help.

If it is NOT actually overheating, it may be an electrical issue, likely a ground issue somewhere between the battery, the engine, the chassis, and the instrument panel ground.

I would change the thermostat.

Also, How is it running? does it surge with no load applied? if so,our fuel mix may be too lean.

Had this before at work! Connector to the instrument cluster is making bad connection. Left side. Move connector around and watch gauge. Wedge something in connector to make it fit tight.
