Battery cables for MTD 990 Farm King

The battery cables that are existing on the unit look to be 8 or 10 gauge wire by appearance to me. I am planning on changing to 6 gauge wire. Would there be any reason not to use a little thicker cable? Thanks for your input in advance.

I go with larger cables when I replace them too. What is on there from the factory is barely adequate when new.

Yabbut, cranking will be delayed while that little GT battery fills those BIG cables up with electrons! Probably NOT the best idea, unless you have time to wait every time you start it.

Either Bob is attempting to be funny here OR.... he hasn't a clue about electricity. LOL

There is no reason to not use heavier gauge cables as you proposed.

NO nipping (darn it)! Just a feeble attempt at humor. Sadly, I forgot for a moment that HUMOR is frowned upon here!

Worked out ok bob, if nothing else, we identified two people that must not read many posts here, based on their replies :)

Bob, I read it, laughed out loud, and then stopped to think,, I wonder how many people will think he is serious??

No way! would they??

Then I read on,,

good grief,,,

You are either OK or the both of us are off kilter.

Humour isn't frowned upon, Bob but lame attempts at humour that do not include some sort of clue that humour is being made... end up getting responses like mine and TRK's to set the record straight. I have been around forums long enough to know that there are people out there who actually give replies like you gave and are dead serious. The OP came here looking for solid advice, not a pathetic attempt at comedy. You need to work on your act before giving up your day job.

Tom, is there any laughter in your life?

I enjoy all sorts of mechanical stuff, I'd like to think as much as you, but reading your posts, I don't think you are capable of humor, or of letting your guard down/taking the chip off your shoulder, and (even for one post) being a regular guy like the rest of us for even a little.

It's hard to believe garden tractors can occupy such an "always serious" and a "know it all" part of your life!

(IMHO!)

Bob,
Thank you for your amateur psycho analysis. It is much appreciated.

To answer your question..I'd say that there is no laughter in my life whatsoever. Experience has taught me to avoid laughter at all cost because far too many people misinterpret what I am laughing about. Humour is not as universal is one might think and it can even be dangerous. Take for instance the Dutch cartoonists who included a caricature of the Prophet Mohammed in their work. A certain sect of society failed to see their point of view. Trying to be funny in a world gone mad with political correctness is so impossible that many of the top comics are now refusing to perform at colleges and universities. Humour is also not timeless. There are many TV shows that I watched back in the day that made me roar with laughter but today... they are pathetic. Then again, most of what passes for humour on television in the 21st century is far from funny.

Unlike some members of forums, I am careful about which threads I will post to. You are right when you say that I am always serious because I take the act of giving advice to be very serious. After all, the reason they came to a forum is because they needed accurate information about a problem they are having. I think that they are entitled to receive advice that will help them and not cause them further problems or expense. Others don't see it that way and so they chime in with a solution that their wife heard at the local hairdresser's shop while her head most mostly covered with the blow dryer. Of course, there is always that group of people who will tell you to use 63 weight Super Synthetic Moly Aircraft Latrine Motor lubricant because their step-brother's mother-in-law's cousin's wife has an uncle who swears by the stuff and has been using it for decades.

Truthfully speaking Bob, I do not know it all. I am learning every single day and often come away with egg all over my face and am forced to eat a large bowl of crow. But that does not worry me too much because those who do not make any mistakes are those who do not do anything in life. So take this as my personal invitation to post corrections to any advice I give. Just be sure to provide the source you are relying on so that we can all be sure of the accuracy.

You havnt read enough of bob's posts to know he's a super nice guy, smart, and helps people all over the forum, and in a moment of humor he got dogpiled on..

That many... Apparently..

If Bob does not post frequently in the Garden Tractor forum, then you are right...soundguy. I have not read any of Bob's posts since I do not frequent other sections of YT. I will take your word about Bob's attributes OTHER than that of humour. LOL

guys guys guys----------- lets drop the critiques of each other. Tome has been extremely helpful to me personally and I am not familiar with Bob but I thought the answer was funny but it could have been constued as fact. Lets all play nice and get over ourselves. I am probably one of the dumbest people on this forum but get lots of help here. Henry VOF
