Gravely model L carburetor question

I rebuilt the carb and set things according to manual. Starts fine. At high throttle, it conks out after about 20 seconds and it feels like it's starved for fuel. Lowering the throttle or playing with the choke at that point doesn't help. Inline fuel filter is good. What would be a good sequence of things to try to fix this. I don't want to screw up something else. Thanks.

I would remove the fuel line to the carburetor and make sure it had a good flow that doesn't taper off after a few seconds. Lots of old stuff had a screen in the fuel tank outlet and if that is plugged you can run the fuel from the line and after that your carburetor starts starving for gas.

You can try adjusting the high speed a little richer-turn the screw counterclockwise in most cases.

If all else fails, you may have to double check all the passages in your carburetor again.

Zenith carb on a Model "L" machine? Bottom of the tank remove the bowl assembly. Now you can check for crud in the neck. Has like a 1/4 inch hole into the bowl. next make sure your line runs clear and fast. If you have an inline,, REMOVE it. They do not flow very well in such a short distance. You should have just a straight copper line. With everything hooked back up you should now have a very nice flow of gas. Had the neck on the bowl on my CUB blocked up a couple of weeks ago. Check it.
