Help, Walbro carb. on a Briggs engine

I am not the sharpest with these small engines. I have a Briggs 28B707-1008E1 Engine needs a new carb, due to some moron (not me) leaving out of doors and uncovered. Took the bowl and then the carb off, it was full of that nasty white stuff. So I go to briggs part list and come up with two different carb possibilities. First is a 698171 this replaces numerous other previous models. Next is 498027 (says gravity feed, which this is) replaces all these walbro LMT carb numbers (my carb is a walbro lmt no numbers legible) how do I choose? Thanks Tom

If you have a gravity feed carb then you need the 498027 number. This number has been changed to a 799728. The LMT number should be etched into the carb body. If the carb body is not ate up carb kits and a new bowl are a lot less expensive.

Thanks Rodney, and retiredfarmer. Think I will buy new. Has numbers etched on it but can't make them return anything.

When i removed it used a can of spray carb cleaner on it could never make it pick any fuel up to cause engine to engine pop or flood. Think it may have a bad idle circuit, float definitely is bad and main jet would not come out with my chapman screw driver set either. Thanks Tom

I don't want to muddy the water any, but a lot of times those replacement part numbers are Nikki carburetors. But they go right in and work just as well as the old Walbro so don't be afraid of a Nikki carburetor.
