Hi All,

I'm looking to replace a left side transaxle for a 1999 Dixon 4516k. HydroGear doesn't make them anymore and I'm not having any luck finding a used one. I would definitely buy one if anyone has one available.

Also, would it be possible to modify the frame of the Dixon to accept a different but close version of the 5751A transaxle? If the only thing that doesn't match up are the holes to attach to the frame, couldn't I just drill new holes? I hate to give this mower up because I just put a new $800 engine on it....

where are you /odds are i probably have complete unit on shelf. disassemble lots of those for used parts resale . what is wrong with your unit.

Did you try calling Hydro-Gear direct. I have called them several times and they are very helpful. Their home office is in Sullivan,Ill. phone number is 217-728-2581 and they have a toll free number good in US 1-877-728-7410.

I'm not sure. One of the bearings busted which caused the unit to leak around the axle. My cousin was mowing and she didn't stop mowing until the thing wouldn't move. I suspect running it until the fluid was completely out really messed it up.

I helped my uncle replace the busted bearing and seals and the filter, but it still won't work. It will move a little while making a moaning/straining noise, but it has almost no power. Me and my uncle don't know enough about hydraulics to diagnose the exact problem or enough to feel confident trying to rebuild it. That's why I was hoping to find a whole unit to purchase....

Oh, I'm located in southern West Virginia. And what would the price on a used one look like do you think? It weighs like 30 lbs, so shipping would be a bit pricey too. However, if it's a good unit and will give me several more years of use for this mower, I would totally be interested....

Ok you repaired the bearing and put on new filter . When you put new hydraulic fluid in it did you purge the system to get the air out of system?

Yep, did the purge also. One thing I haven't mentioned is that there were lots of metal shavings in the transaxle. After we opened the bottom casing to replace the filter, my uncle looked like he'd been glitter bombed. I assumed that these shaving were the result of my cousin running the machine until it simply wouldn't go anymore. (I am not happy with her, but she's family and whadayagonnado?)

Sound like you need to find good used unit. If it was me and I found a good unit I think I would check bearing and seals before puting back on mower.

Yah, that or just for over $5-$6k for a new mower. I was looking at the Hustlers yesterday. They look like a quality machines...

I've been running two Dixons for a bunch of years, but it seems like every year there's a major problem with one of them now. They've been good machines all in all though with the exception of the Kohler engine on one of them spazzing out at a young age. The one with the original Briggs engine is still going strong. Both of them are over 15 years old.... I have wheel weights on them and they do really well on fairly steep slopes even when it's a bit damp.

you can be in new 50 inch unit for 2999. be what took the place of machines you been running. been really good units with no issues . let me know if can help

Please help me. I have a Dixon ZTR 4515B mower. It is in perfect running condition EXCEPT the left side Hydro-gear transmission is bad.
