Deere 318 mule

I have lost two belts this week. The belt gets thrown and it ends up getting cut by the tension indicator rod.
Somehow the belt gets behind the pulley and lodges itself against the rod or indicator. Pulleys seem OK.

Are you tightening the belt according to instructions?

Is the tension spring correct and intact?

Are the pivot points for the sheaves worn so they run out of line?

Dear Bob,

Thank you for your response. The spring seems to be OK, but I will check the pivot points

like you stated. Will let you know what happens.

FWIW, there's an ebay seller (who I haven't dealt with/have no connection to) who sells a kit to rebuild the idler arm pivot points. If you look at his auction (#121635847663) you will see the wear points and how he repairs them.

I got the mower running with another mule from my daughter's old tractor. I will have to
get a repair kit and fix my mule. Thanks for the help.
