Ingersol 5820 ZT help with hydro fans

Working on what looked like a real score but has some neglect I am finding. Some previous owner let the pulley on the stub shaft side work loose. This in turn, belt drives the shaft to the hydros. Looks like a field fix was done as in lets fix this and trade it.
I think they may have destroyed and replaced the right hydro fan (in the direction of travel). It moves air in the same direction as the left fan. Although it looks the same the center offset of the fans are different and bluntly I am confused.
Do I have the right fan and how do I tell which way the air needs to blow.

Please help, Tom

It seems as though very little information exists for the 5000 Series ZTR's issued by Ingersoll. Even Eastman's website does not mention the 5820 in the area where the Parts Manuals are stored. I do not have the 5820 Parts Manual on my site but I do have the 5820 Op Manual. I see that there was a 5820V that was Vanguard powered and a 5820K that used a Kohler engine. I confess that I have never worked on one of these, let alone seen one in person. Only in the past few years have there been any discussions about the ZTR's on ANY of the CCI forums and those have been few are far between. These were not a product that was developed by Case or Ingersoll. The entire 5000 Series Ingersoll ZTR's are actually Grazer ZTR's with Power Red paint and different decals. Ingersoll bought the Grazer Division from M & W in the early 90's, a company that is still in business today.

I reviewed the 5820 OP Manual. It makes mention of two oil coolers that are apparently stacked closely together and it also refers to a cooling fan, not fans. I also went to the Rotman's site to see if Larry had the Parts Manual for the 5820. See the link below. No such luck there, either. I have sent an e-mail to Brian at Salem Power to see if he might have a PDF of that parts manual. I expect a reply this evening.

As I suspected, things are rather bizarre.

The good news is that Brian kindly sent me a PDF of the Parts Manual. If you e-mail me at [email protected], I will send it to you.

The bad news is that it is not much help. The pictorial for the hydraulic system does not show a cooler or coolers for the oil. The parts list does not mention them either. Moving now to the cross shaft, the parts list mentions two part numbers for fans but it says that TWO fans of one part number were used and ONE fan with the other part number. The pictorial of the cross shaft shows just one fan but it does not show where it is placed nor does it say which part number is depicted. Sadly, this does not surprise me because I have found that the manuals produced AFTER Case sold the division to Jack Ingersoll were not up to the former standard.

Here is Brian's contact info and I pasted a link below for you to click on.

Brian will do his best to help you with parts but he has not seen very many 5000 Series show up at his shop for repairs. These were great ZTR's and they still perform rather well in spite of being somewhat dated. But the lack of good information makes them difficult to work on. I have one more shot in the dark to make. I will report back on that once I get a reply.

Tom, Thought I posted last night when I got in. Email sent.

Was Ingy still producing these units (5820V) or had they subbed them back out. Thanks Tom

My understanding is that after Ingersoll bought the Grazer Division from M & W, production of the Grazer line continued along with production of the 5000 Series Ingersoll ZTR's until Rothenberger's
bankrupted the company in 2004. I have never studied the ZTR's but it would seem logical that the 5000's used many of the parts found on the Grazer models in any given year of production. Yes, I got
your e-mail. I will send the PDF some time today.

The manual was sent to you the other day but I do not know if you received it or not. Kindly post a reply here so I know that it is in your hands.

Yes, thank you very much, glad you have friends in high places. Checked it out when I got in last night foggy brain. Corn planting going on also.
I had assumed the fans would be the same as the 5018/5020 units as that is the only thing on ingy site. Glad I didn't buy one. Will be back on it soon. Thanks Tom

I sent an e-mail to Dave Beiter. He owns a 5820. Dave replied stating that he would log onto this forum some time over the weekend with a view to helping you further. Perhaps Dave can take some well lit photos of that cross shaft with the fans in place so you can finally see how your shaft and fan arrangement should be. Dave is a collector/restorer of Colt, Case and Ingersoll tractors and has considerable experience with them.

Ok, I am finally here. Yes, I own two of the 5820V Ingy ZTR's One is a parts tractor and the other I LOVE.. Send me your e-mail address and I will take some pics of the drive and fans for you.

Thanks
Dave

Thanks Dave, You say you have a parts machine. Parts hard to get, Expensive or unavailable.

Do both fans on the hydros appear to blow out from the center? Tom

My email firefarm @ yahoo.com remove spaces

Dave tried to reach you yesterday from puter at work. No luck. puter from home seems to work.

Thanks for the e-mail address, I will get you the pics here soon.. Busy planting corn myself!! The weather has finally broke!

Dave

Dave: Hope corn planting is going well for you. Thanks for the shots and they deepen the dilemma. I too have the same fan set up as yours except I have all the blades on the left one. Seems to me both should be exhausting over the hydro.
In another lifetime when I worked Ford parts we could contact an engineer to provide a final determination. Thanks Tom

I took a look at my parts 5820V yesterday and the fans on it are set up the same way as on my good one. They both blow air the same direction.. I know it is weird.. but 2 alike kind of make it hard to dispute.

Let me know if you need anything else

Dave

Thanks Dave, Made contact with Notjustair over on TT. He has a deines, was having some grief with a hydro overheating and changed a fan out to repair. Don't look to be the same brand hydro but he had two fans with the same airflow. I may order another fan so I can exhaust over the hydro. Tom
