John Deere 345

I have a handicapped 80ish year old neighbor who pays me to mow her large yard with her mower which I've done for quite a few years. She has the J.D. dealer service it every winter. The J.D. 345 has less than 350 hours. Yesterday as I was finishing mowing a belt began squealing, at least it sounded like a belt. Shutting off the mower deck made no difference so I wonder if it's the hydrostat transmission "binding up"? I called the dealer, they said "maybe the deck got something that jammed it". No, I told them shutting it off made no difference. I hope it's not serious. Ever hear of a hydro binding up? Should find out in a couple days, when I do I'll reply to this post.

Hopefully its just an idler on the transmission belt gone dry. I am thinking that mower is at least 10 years old, so its age more than hours of use that got you to this point.

Right, I think it was made in 1998 so about 17 years old but should have a lot of life left I'd think, only used for mowing.
