Ok so I posted this in the wrong section and was told maybe I would get more answers here. I have a hydro unit that wont pull me or the mower up hill even barely moves on level ground it seemed to be intermittent but now I cant go anywhere but down hill . if its the filter where would it be located? and if none, what can I do ,I can here my grass laughing at me right now. Thanks Al

If yours is like my 1330 cadet, pull out the battery and look down to the left front corner under the seat. there is a plastic resivour for the tranny fluid. The cap takes like a 1/4 twist CCW. BE careful it is VEERY expensive if you break it. When I bought my 1330 used the fluid was FILTHY and I sucked it all out with a little pumper thing. Fill with ATF and see if you can move. If so gently move around maybe 3 or 4 minutes. Suck it all out and repeat. After 5 or 6 times it should stay clear. ATF is cheap. Go to IH dealer and buy a $10.oo bottle of the correct fluid. Refill to level mark on the plastic bowl. Put cap back on. Hope this fixes you up. If not it may be time for a used tranny. Also look at the front transmission mount. They break and can screw everything up! linkage will not work. Jeffact

My Wards tractor was doing that last Fall. There's no dipstick and it was low on fluid. I changed the filter too. Hal

Man I just dont know, I went out last nite just before dark and started the mower and it pulled like crazy and then again today I managed to mow the entire yard, I just dont get it, anyway is the filter located inside the housing of the pump ? because I see nothing but a yellow cap where I put fluid in.

There are links between the hydro unit and the transmission case similar to couplers on power washers or motors and hydraulic pumps. Three pin type things that fit together. They sit on shafts that are splined really fine, the three pin thing is pot metal and they strip out easily. One set for the input to pump, one set for the output to the tranny. New ones and problems gone.

My Wards tractor has an external oil filter for the hydrostatic drive. Check with your local IH dealer. Hal
