What would be the best engine to repower this
mower with. The B&S. Or Honda. Has the KT17.
Series 1 on it now. What r the weak part of these
mower. The engine smokes real bad. Heard not
worth to rebuild. How do u change the rear end oil
on this mower. Thanks. Donald
 
I would be real careful about the repower kits, I tried to repower my 316 with a kohler after much troubles I sent it back and rebuilt my old engine. I was going have to cut away most of the frame on the left side I care not to modify my tractor that much. Looked like it would cause the frame to bend. As for the tran oil On the front of the tran under the filter, Take that line loose and drain the oil there.

There are a bunch of places that sell repower kits for your tractor. Several places will sell you a
no-cutting drop-in and plug-in kit with a custom fit muffler. Joe Csuti gave you good advice.
If you are good with cutting and welding, Harbor Freight sells a $700 clone of the Honda v-twin that
was really popular before the Briggs Vanguard came out. Kohler sells a good V-twin now as well.
