In addition to possible bad points/condenser coil may be bad, primary winding may be shorted or secondary(hv)may be shorted or open.

Without fancy tools or equipment you can trace your problem by doing the following.
A- Double check to see that you have battery voltage at the coil primary post marked +
B. Remove the wire going to the points and the condenser wire from the - primary coil post.
C. Lay spark plug on the head where you can see it with plug wire connected
D. With switch on hold a test wire to the battery - post and touch other end to coil -post and remove it while watching plug.

If you dont have spark at the plug when you remove your test ground then either the coil, high tension lead or spark plug is bad.

If you do get spark then check the wire that goes form coil to points. On the older CC tractors they are often the culprit with bad insulation grounding the wire either at the point cover or at one of the clips.

You dont need to crank engine to check for spark as to trace down the problem. Place engine where points are closed. With key on you should get a spark each time you open the points with your finger or small screwdriver.
