Cub Cadet hydro oil

I have a cub cadet 1811 and need to change the hydro oil and filter I have plenty of universal tractor oil I use in my 8n's. I am wondering if that is ok to use in the cub cadet or is it best to use the specified stuff.

I always use the genuine Cub Cadet oil from the dealer, it cost a little more, but if something happens they can't blame it on the type oil.

MTD does not make oil and neither does John Deere but both brands use Sundstrand transaxles in certain models and then market oil with their name on it at a premium price. You can use Type F automatic transmission fluid but the most economical choice comes with a visit to your local CASE/IH dealer and purchase a 5 gallon pail of Hy-Tran Ultra.

Thanks for the quick replies I guess I won't use be using the utf except in the 8n's.

I wasn't implying that CC or MTD made the oil.
Just trying to help him in his question
I supposed the companys such as JD, IH, etc. have oil made to their specifications or its yust a sales gimmick to get more money from the end user.
In todays world nothing surprises me.

Harvey,

I was not suggesting that you were implying such a thing. I was simply pointing out that many manufacturers market oil under their own brand. Ingersoll does it and charges around 10 bucks a quart for it. But Colt, Case and Ingersoll hydraulic drive tractors are very happy with straight weight 30W, 20W50 or 15W40 motor oil for about half that cost. We are all here to help.

Bob's post sent me on a discovery mission and he is correct. However, I suggest that you look at the container you have, find the brand name and do a Google search on it to see if the results are the same as what Sinclair posted.

Oil viscosity is very important in hydrostatic drives and the oil must maintain that viscosity even when it gets pretty hot. If it doesn't, then your ground speed will suffer dramatically.
