what is it worth

Hello, I have a 1650 IH Cub Cadet that has a bad motor. I am considering selling it as is. The hydro works very strong. Was mowing with it when motor started knocking. I shut her down before the rod came though the side of the block. I am keeping the deck as I have another tractor it will work on. So, what is it worth or should I just scrap the whole thing and be done with. Thanks for any inputs...........Kenny :? :(

Sending any LT or GT to the scrap yard should be the very last resort. Put it up for sale on Craigslist and see if you can sell it to someone looking for a parts tractor. As long as you get a bit more for it than what the scrap yard will pay, then you are ahead of the game. I am not a Cub Cadet enthusiast but IMO your tractor should still be worth at least $200.00 as it sits.

Post where it is located and you might even get offers here. If you caught it before exploding, maybe you could rebuild it and keep around.

The value really depends on how it was taken care of and how worn it is. I sold a nice running and appearing 1650 last fall for
$650 but it didnt sell quickly. An ugly worn out tractor with knocking motor and no deck might fetch $150 if you find the right
guy but $100 is more realistic quick sale. You might investigate the cause of the knock and fixing it. The 16HP Kohler engines
in the quite line tractors didn't have balance gears which are major causes of problems and costs at overhaul. An aftermarket kit with
everything you need is just over $100 add $150 for the machine shop and engine is new again assuming you can assemble it
yourself.

Some place in archives is a thread on doing rod bearing on ground crank- Kohler rod normally doesn't take a bearing, aluminum rod stock forms the bearing. BUT a AC G rod bearing will fit a .020(?) under crankshaft rod journal with the rod line bored out about same .010/.020 . Minor machine shop work instead of new rod and crankshaft- seems Kohler for some rigs only had a .010 under rod for service on .010 ground rod journal. Worn rod end, scratched crank journal might just mean 2 hours or less shop labor and a gasket set and the Continental 60 inch AC G rod bearing- back in business. RN.

Thanks guys, I am going to a neighborhood show/gathering in June. I am gonna take her and put a for sale sign and see what she'll do. If nothing there I am gonna put her on Caraigslist and see what happens. Thanks for all the in put and help. It's truly appricaited. ..................Kenny
