Hi....

I have an electric start 8 HP Gravely 526 walk-behind with a 4 speed swiftamatic transmission. Today while plowing the PTO kept disengaging. Is it a major problem or some kind of adjustment I need to do? Any help will be greatly appreciated!!!
Thanks Darrell!!!

Easy fix but now get the parts! Your front clutch is worn out. The one on your rotary plow. Look at the dogs and see if they make a nice ramp to the tip of the tooth or have really rounded ends. The other thing is the engagement dog on the machine. It also should have nice square teeth. I have found these parts on flea bay and they are not that hard to change. A lot of people do not know how to engage their machines. Idle machine, Just drift the machine alittle like you want to put it into reverse and Then engage the drive. Hope this helped ya. P.S. tell you how in the owners manual. Jeffcat

You can look to see it there is any adjustment in the shifter rod, but I imagine there isn't. IIRC what's probably the problem is a worn shipper shaft. The nose on the shaft that does the actual work wears over the years and tends to jump a bit and eventually pops out of gear. IIRC there's a detent balls in SOME of the shipper shafts, but not all, that can get frozen in place but my memory might be thinking of a different rig. The shipper shaft comes right out with 2 bolts in the advance casting, it's a snapper to check and replace. I can't recall if there is a bushing in the shipper shaft housing, but they can wear too. SHould be a good working fit between them.

Darrel take a look at flee bay for what you need. Item 171771441157 is the "dog" that engages your attachment drive. This is the part on your machine. The other is the clutch pack itself that is on every attachment on these machines. Item #121545578415 is the other one you need. Look at a blowup of the teeth on the clutch and you can see how they have a nice sharp edge. I just bet that yours are all worn or "chewed up".
