Question about Craftsman key module

Last fall I purchased a 54” Craftsman, 917.28861X. I am generally satisfied with this product, however there is feature that bugs me to no end. The key module. Instead of the standard key, there is a a sequence push-button to start the machine. To me this is time-consuming and very annoying step because many times I just use the mower to pull a small yard trailer with lot of stop-and-go maneuvers. Also I don’t have any small kids tempted to take joy rides.

My question is, can I change this push-button module with a standard key module like was installed in the previous model. I looked in the parts manual of the previous module , and it looks like the number of connectors are different. So in order to work to it has to be some cutting and splicing wires. I am not going to do this until the warranty period is over.
Where can I find a detailed wiring (maybe factory) diagram for this model? The manual I have is useless.
Since this mower is made by Husqvarna, maybe the wiring should be the same. I know they use the same key module.

At the Husqvarna dealer where i work we sell units with that crap on there. Husqvarna labels some of its units for Sears, so probably they built yours.

Its even frustrating for the technicians, a savvy spectator can screw up the combination and then it won't start until it is re-set to some combination that everyone knows. We had a customer reset the combination Friday during Open House. Of course we didn't find that out until quitting time!

It also tends to have a mind of its own as far as working even when you know and use the combination.

For a wiring schematic, look in your owner's manual. I hope its in there near the back. The drawing in the parts book for most Husqvarna equipment just shows the components, like 'wiring harness', 'ignition switch', etc., with nothing to show where each wire goes and what color it is.

I am hoping there will be a retrofit kit for that mess, but with Husqvarna leading the way, its' probably just a dream. There stuff never gives trouble. Just ask them.

It's hard to believe the folks at the mfg's that dream crap like this up don't even have a clue as to what will happen when such a STUPID feature is released into the real world!

Thank you for sharing the news. I didn't even know this issue it was wide spread.

I have a basic wiring schematic from the parts manual but it's hardly readable. With my pay grade I would need something much more understandable with all the color code and components location. If a full service manual would be available, I would be happy to buy it. Sears doesn't appear to offer it. Are there any available sources anywhere? I just can't find any.
