Just brought a john deer 317 lawn tractor. Not running. Replaced points and condensor. Got 12 volts at the + side of the coil. Have the points set at .020 still have no spark at spark plugs. Replaced spark plug wire copper . Coil. Can the points handle 2 car type coil. It has the KT 17 engine. How do check the Hyd oil in this mower Thanks. For the help. Got a plow and disk 3 point Can this mower pull them. Are they worth any thing. Or scrap iron.
 
If you connect a test light to the (-) (points) side of the coil and ground and try to start it what does the light do, (off, on steady, or flash)?

A 3-point attachment is available to carry your equipment, and the heavy 'ol Sundstrand hydro is up to the task.

There should be a clear sight tube attached to the hydro filler area at the very back. (#1 in the drawing.) IIRC, oil level should be at the middle of the slot in the frame that the tube is clamped next to.

The factory service manual, linked in my reply, specifies 0.20", which may be tweaked a bit to set timing. They state 0.017" to 0.023".
