Cub Cadet Hydro linkage adjusting

Have older 12hp cub cadet. Hydrostat either moves tractor forward or backward. Adjusting linkage rod has to be one full turn. one turn creates foward or backward movement. Where am I missing an adjustment

The linkage bracket on side of hydro pump slides up and down. Held with 2- 3/8" bolts. Lock foot pedal down, move bracket up or down until wheels don't move and snug up bolts.

It sure doesn't take much play to do what you describe. I don't know which model you have but some have an adjustment under the dash. The play most likely is in the slot on the swash plate control. That slot gets worn from use and the swash plate control can move in the slot.
The tranny wants to either go forward or backwards by itself, self feeding say, so holding neutral is paramount.

WHOA!!! Before you go crazy. I have a cub cadet 1330 little MTD. I bought it used for a tug tractor and it has been very nice. Now as you have said the shifting was kind of goofy and I pulled the manual off of the internet. Started to adjust things and still couldn't get things right. Finally pulled off the rear fenders and seat deck. Changed the fluid in the hydro cause it was BLACK. Things got better and then I found the trouble. The front transmission mount was broken! Took it of and welded it up. Readjusted the linkage and everything goes just ducky! Jeffcat

Older is subjective? To us more experienced types "older" would mean a 1XX series up to maybe what they called the quiet line tractors models 1000-1650. If this is what you have two things are important for you to know to properly diagnose and repair your problem. The pump, if left to its own ways would go wide open, or to the fast speed so it must be held from doing so. This is as opposed to being forced towards pumping oil as one would think. The other important item is on those type of older CC tractors there is a devise on the side of the transmission called the trunnion. The operating lever moves the trunnion and the trunnion controls the direction and amount of oil pumped. What the trunnion does is cushion the movement of the swash plate so that operation of the tractor is not jerky. There are two opposing springs that work to soften both control inputs and forces placed against the control by the loads on the transmission. With wear in the spring seats and the springs them selves sagging over time leaving slop that causes what you describe plus other problems. See attached link for pictures and the fix.

Thanks for all the replies. My bad for not stating model 2130. I'm pretty sure the slotted hole in the plate attached to the cross shaft is worn and enlarged. I think its time to sell it cheap. I have run out of patience with this machine.
