does anyone have an ideal of what my old mean looking ih 582 special is worth these days?its used but still powerful as ever, and thru the years deck didn't survive, but tractor is doing good, whats it worth if anyone should want to take it from me?thanks

The 582 came with a hydro. The less expensive 582 Special was issued with a Peerless gear type trans-axle used in the 482, thus making the 582 cheaper to buy. It was one of the red versions of the Cub Cadets sold at the IH AG dealers. The yellow/white Cub Cadet version was called a 580.

In my opinion, the OP would be lucky to get $200.00 for his tractor if he can find someone that actually wanted one.

Condition and appearance mean a lot. As does location. In our area if it looks nice, runs nice and been
taken care of ask $500 and let people beat you up a 100 or so if they show interest. If it is beat to
heck, never seen the inside of a shed and nothing works except was has to to run then it is a $100
outfit.

The 582 had the regular CC 3 speed trans with a 17 tooth 2nd gear, not hydro. In all honesty, the Special was not that bad - the 3rd gear speed ratio was in between the 582's 2nd & 3rd speeds. Nice speed for mowing.
