john deere 140 hydrostat

hello all, does anyone know where I can send my hydrostat off of my 140 john deere to get it tested and repaired if need be. I have the engine out, being overhauled and the hydrostat was giving me some issues. this would be the perfect time to have this done. thanks happy gilmore

There is a guy on the Internet that will rebuild them. It's not cheap- as in if it is pre30,000 serial number I was quoted around
$1000-1100. These were sundstrand units. If you google sundstrand JD 140 his website should show up. May could be
done locally?

you saying tranny giving issues, what issues and are you sure you do not just have loose
belt, or the neutral lever got repositioned. see this alot but see very little of tranny
being wrong inside

tzr, there's NO traction belt on a 140, it's a shaft drive. As another poster said, there's two entirely different hydros, before and after s.n. 30,000.

If the OP comes back with which serial #/hydro he has, perhaps we can help.

Trouble is, lots of times, no one posts back.

Parts are scarce for the early version, the later version shares parts in common with hydros quite a few years newer.

I just picked up an early 140 H3. Actually bought it for the motor, but may decide to keep it whole or not, so I haven't ordered service manual yet. It seems to creep while in neutral, will a simple adjustment stop this or is it more serious ? Any in-site would be appreciated, thanks.

Should be a simple linkage or cam adjustment. There's a yoke at the end of the linkage rid at the hydro, and the cam rotates on an eccentric bolt. Tweaking the two should fix it. If you'd like, and can post the details from the SM.

sorry stop trying keep all in my head, guess thats a green unit i have not seen, ones here been all belt drive stuff

Thanks Bob
I thought that might be the case but just wanted to confirm before tearing in to it. Guess I need to decide if I want to keep it or not, one thing for sure is, they sure put some steel in these old ones, not like the stamped frames of today. Again thank you, I'll give it a look see and post back if I can not figure it out..
