milky moisture in crankcase breather tube

Have a 12.5 Briggs that has been setting a while. Needle valve was stuck and filled crankcase with gas. Drained gas and filled with oil. Put a battery in it and it started with no smoke at all but then started flooding. Got needle valve unstuck, and now when I get it to run, it is putting a lot of milky moisture out crankcase breather tube and misting gas out of carb while running. Engine does not smoke or knock when running! Any ideas? Was thinking maybe broke or stuck ring, but no smoke. Maybe crankcase breather plugged up or head gasket blown?

Which 12.5? The Flathead, or the Overhead valve?

If its OHV you may have a blown head gasket. Head gasket can leak into the pushrod galley and blowing out the crankcase breather is one symptom of a blown head gasket.

If its flathead, It may be the rings.

Also, I have witnessed a kinked or restricted breather hose can cause similar symptoms.

Sorry, it is ohv vertical shaft. Would this also cause a mist of gas from carb? Like I said, does not smoke at all while running, so I don't think it would be rings.

Depending on how long eng sat & temp variations eng subjected to & if left outside covered/uncovered the white moisture may also be due to condensation buildup in eng & crancase,if oil drained & new oil put in eng milky discharge may disappear as eng is used & moisture blown/evaporated out of eng,.check oil color after 1/2-1hr of use to see if it changes to a milky color.

Gas blown out carb can also be caused by a leaking float valve in carb causeing a border line flooding condition, worn intake valve guide, valves need an adjust or intake valve leaking slightly due to carbon buildup on valve/valve seat,if carb not the problem consider doing a leak down test on eng to check for leaking head gasket or leaking valve before pulling head,it is a known problem some mod briggs 12-16hp ohv eng were hard on head gaskets,I had a 14hp ohv I had to replace head gasket 3 times in 12 yrs.

You are seeing moisture evacuating out as the engine runs and warms up. I would let it run for 1/2 hour at least and then check the crankcase oil to see if it's ok.

More than likely it will be just fine after you purge out the collected moisture.
