trying to help a friend out, ive been working on a cub cadet ltx 1040 automatic, this thing started smoking belts last year ive replaced all the belts, which were the original belts, with exact same belts and checked the pulleys ect very carefully, what happens is when the deck is raised to its full up position the belt or something scrapes on the engine drive pulley somehow, even though when i turned the engine off the belt is not tight nor is it in a bind on the pulley or the belt gaurds, it is very hot,,mower in nutural, parking brake on, and deck disengaged, nothing else is touching on the whole tractor ive had it apart several times, anybody have any ideas before i haul this thing 90 miles one way to have the only competent shop around work on it, these folks are elderly and on a fixed income which is why i tried to work on it

Some of those Cubs when the deck is all the way up the drive pulley on the engine hits the deck. Are there any half-moon looking bare spots on the deck by the pulley? I've seen them that the pulley cuts clear through the deck, it does get very hot.
Just an idea,
David

it smokes the tractor drive belt going to the rear of the machine, all pulleys are shiny the unit only has about 15 hours on it, ive never heard something raise cain like this, but have no telltale marks of it rubbing, and when i shut the engine off while its making the noise nothing is tight, as long as the tractor is in park, and the deck is disengaged, it doesnt make any noise when the deck is lowered but this old man thinks because it says cub on it that it will mow the stuff my farmall cub [ full size cub farm tractor] will mow, and he has to run it full up to get over the stuff he's mowing, it didnt make any noise last year until he burned the belt in half, and i got the exact belts to replace them, all of them, also ive checked the pulley bearings to see if one of those was bad, all are good and turn smooth, and all pulleys line up, that is nothing is bent under the tractor , hoping somebody has run into this before and can give me something new to check
