The original subject was "Re: Case 444, not charging".

My Case 444 has serial #9653502 and I have an over charging issue. I have a new starter generator purchased from an aftermarket manufacturer and a delco remy voltage regulator part #1118988. I got this voltage regulator by cross referencing the case part #. What is happening now is at half throttle I have 14.8 volts at the battery and at 3/4 throttle I have 15.8 volts at the battery. In the description of my voltage regulator it states that it is adjustable yet it did not come with any instructions on how to do so. If anyone has any insight into this problem I would be very grateful.

Copy and paste this " Delco - Remy Service Bulletin 1R-116 - Ruiter.ca
ruiter.ca/mc/info/PDFs/1R-116.pdf " into your search function to get the information on adjusting them.

I have two comments on this.

1. How certain are you that your test meter is accurate? I suggest that you try another meter for comparison.

2. How old is your tractor battery? Have you checked the state of charge in that battery by using a hydrometer? It is important to know that all six cells are fully charged and that the specific gravity is almost identical.

All too often, people blame alternators, generators and regulators for problems but overlook the battery itself. Proper diagnosis of charging issues begins with making sure the battery is in perfect condition.

thanks Tom I double checked the meters accuracy by starting the wifes 2014 Toyota camry and got 14.2 at the battery. My battery in the Case tractor is about 2 yrs old and is an exide brand. it checks at 12.2 volts with engine off.
